Overview
What is Lumaya?
Lumaya is a Softrious in-house product for a three-sided beauty and wellness network. Clients discover artists by specialty and location, independent artists build a portfolio and client base, and studios showcase their team and recruit talent—all around direct, lasting relationships.
The problem it explores
Choosing a stylist, esthetician, or therapist is a personal decision, yet most booking tools treat artists as interchangeable time slots. Good artists struggle to be found without constant posting, and clients lose touch when an artist changes studios. Lumaya explores a network built around the relationship itself.

- 02Let artists be discovered even when they don’t post often
- 03Keep client–artist connections when artists change studios
- 04Give studios visibility, online booking, and a way to recruit

Design decisions
Why it looks and works the way it does.
Dark, editorial, and calm
A deep aubergine canvas lets portfolio photos glow, while champagne accents and a serif feel premium without being loud.
The artist is the hero
Profiles follow the person, not the studio, so clients can stay with the artist they trust.
Content that converts
Every Moment links to the artist and a bookable service, turning inspiration into a visit.
Clear wellness boundaries
The app connects people; it doesn’t give medical advice. Health-related services carry a clear notice to consult qualified professionals.
Proposed architecture
How we’d build it.
A marketplace backend that handles search, media, messaging, and bookings for three kinds of users—with roles and permissions enforced on the server.
- 1
Mobile app
One Flutter codebase for iOS and Android, with role-aware experiences for clients, artists, and studios
- 2
Marketplace API
Node.js (TypeScript) services for profiles, services, availability, and bookings, with role-based access control
- 3
Search & discovery
Full-text and geospatial search across artists, studios, and services, ranked by relevance and distance
- 4
Content & messaging
Media pipeline for portfolio images and real-time chat with booking proposals
- 5
Live location
Artists share location only during an active home visit; updates stream over WebSockets with ETAs from the Directions API, then sharing stops automatically
- 6
Trust & safety
Credential checks, reporting and moderation tools, and clear wellness disclaimers

Approach
How we shaped it.
It follows the same delivery model we use for every client engagement.
- 01
Discovery
Align goals, define the product scope, and create a shared roadmap before engineering begins.
- 02
Design
Create a polished interface system, validate flows, and define the experience before code.
- 03
Engineering
Build with clear milestones, visible progress, and maintainable code from day one.
What it demonstrates
- Designing a three-sided marketplace with distinct journeys
- A premium, dark visual identity for a lifestyle brand
- Discovery, social content, messaging, and booking in one product
- Clear boundaries for wellness content and safety
What we’d validate next
- Validate the three-sided onboarding with artists and studios
- Test how Moments influence booking decisions
- Measure how live tracking affects home-visit no-shows and lateness
- Pilot studio recruiting tools with a small group of studios
Lumaya is a Softrious in-house product, designed and planned end to end by our team.
From the team
Behind the build.
“Lumaya has three very different users—clients, independent artists and studios—and every screen had to work for whoever was holding the phone. Home visits shaped the most: we designed live arrival tracking so clients stop wondering where their artist is, and artists share location only while they’re on the way.”
